Dermatitis / Eczema is a particular type of inflammatory reaction of the skin in which there are typically vesicles (tiny blister-like raised areas) in the first stage followed by erythema (reddening), edema (swelling), papules (bumps), and crusting of the skin followed, finally, by lichenification (thickening) and scaling of the skin and it characteristically causes itching and burning of the skin. Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin caused by direct contact with an irritating or allergy-causing substance (irritant or allergen). Detection of the substance clinically or by allergy testing (patch testing / prick testing) helps in correct diagnosis and quick relief for the patient.
